'Sludge': Nancy Lavin discusses ongoing sewage treatment issues in Woonsocket (wpri.com) — Woonsocket's long-troubled sludge incinerator and wastewater treatment plant are again under scrutiny as the city shifts to a new private operator and weighs how, and when, to finally close the controversial burner. A Rhode Island Current reporter explains the regional role of the facility, the pollution and lawsuits it's generated, and why existing agreements could delay any shutdown for years.
   

2. Woonsocket Council Rejects Flock Camera Ban in 5-1 Vote (upriseri.com) — Woonsocket residents will see continued use of Flock license plate cameras after the City Council rejected a proposed ban, while also ratifying a five-year firefighters contract and approving a downtown holiday pop-up program. Councilors also advanced traffic changes, extended sewer bill deadlines, renewed the homeless shelter lease with new conditions, and shifted wastewater plant operations to a new vendor.
   

3. Kenny Wayne Shepherd extends Ledbetter Heights 30th Anniversary Tour (themusicuniverse.com) — Blues-rock guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd is bringing his Ledbetter Heights 30th Anniversary Tour to Woonsocket's Stadium Theatre on April 2, 2027, as part of a newly announced run of dates. Fans can expect the full 1995 album performed live alongside favorites from his three-decade career, with tickets for the tour going on sale September 18 at 10 a.m. local time.
   

4. A movie lover's tour of Rhode Island — from Woonsocket to Newport (oceanstatemedia.org) — Woonsocket's historic train depot gets a starring role in a statewide tour of Rhode Island filming locations, thanks to its central part in the movie "Hachi: A Dog's Tale" and the Akita statue now outside. The piece then hops from Providence to Newport, Jamestown, Warwick and more, highlighting famous scenes shot in familiar spots you can still visit today.
   

5. New Study in RI Finds Some of the Police and Flock… (golocalprov.com) — Woonsocket is among the Rhode Island police departments flagged in a new ACLU report for not fully disclosing how they share or receive data from Flock license-plate cameras. The investigation argues Flock and many departments overstate their transparency, raising privacy concerns about a 280-camera surveillance network and urging communities to reconsider using the system.
