Roberts Aims To Bring Business Savvy To School Board

Woonsocket School Committee candidate Christopher Roberts explains objectives in running for office.

As one of 10 candidates for Woonsocket's five member School Committee, Christopher Roberts believes the city wants fresh leadership, and that his success in government and business give him the kind of experience the committee needs now.

Roberts currently serves as Vice Chairman of the City of Woonsocket’s Zoning Board of Review.

“My voting record shows incisive decision making, and the ability to cast the tough votes that put the needs of the entire community before any one interest," he said. "Fortitude will be required as many strategic decisions are made over the next two years, and I’ve proven up to the task.”

Roberts also runs , a family business for four generations, with his father, Richard Roberts. He hopes to bring the fiscal responsibility he's learned as a private business owner to work for Woonsocket.

"I believe Woonsocket needs more elected officials with private business experience, and that is a quality I bring to the table. Private business leaders need to react, adapt, and plan without the magic safety net that many elected officials like to believe exists, and I have that skill set," he said.

The business, which distributes lubricants, filters and automotive chemicals to construction, industrial and automotive industries, has done business Woonsocket since 1930.

"I am proud that we have spent nearly all our 80 years in Woonsocket," Roberts said.

In addition, Roberts has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the .

“My real opportunity to officially serve the city came with my appointment to the Board, and it is that spirit of service I wish to continue with a post on the School Committee,” he explained.

The 29-year-old graduate of and Bentley University, holds both a Bachelors in Marketing and Masters in Information Age Marketing. Currently, he volunteers his time with the Boy Scouts of America, serving in a variety of leadership roles.
