SBA Tours State To Assess Irene Damages

Home and business owners should dial 2-1-1 to request assessments.

The Small Business Administration, Office of Disaster Assistance is officially in Rhode Island to assess damages to homes and businesses incurred due to Hurricane Irene.

Beginning today, three teams will be canvassing the state along with a representative from RIEMA.  Woonsocket Emergency Management Agency advises that the home damage that assessment teams are looking for will be in the physical nature which includes home contents, personal property, structural damage, land or their improvements.  Businesses damages will include the loss of inventory, machinery, equipment, land and its improvements whether owned or leased.  Private Non-Profits (PNP) will be recognized as a business.  Please direct your requests for assessment to United Way 2-1-1 to report damage.

This process is an initial assessment to determine if there is enough monetary damage to qualify for an additional declaration of disaster that would allow the SBA to offer long term, low interest loans.
