City Council Work Sessions

The Woonsocket City Council will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room for a work session to discuss zoning application fees and an ordinance to change examination procedures for police positions. The council is then expected to go into executive session to discuss water and wastewater improvement matters and to discuss water treatment plant .

Also on Monday, the Woonsocket Zoning Board will meet at 7 p.m. in Harris Hall for a public hearing. Among applications on the agenda is a request by Victory Lane Motor Sales for a special use permit to operate a facility at 160 Clinton St. 

School Committee Meeting

The Woonsocket School Committee will meet on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Middle School at Hamlet for an executive closed session to discuss litigation, followed by a regular meeting, which will be open to the public and is scheduled for 7 p.m. 

The committee will address approval of Pre-K Demonstration Project and the appointment of a Coordinating Supervisor for Student Services. Director of Administration and Finance Stacey Busby is also expected to present a budget update for FY2011.

Filing period for declaration of candidacy

Beginning today, eligible voters interested in running in Woonsocket's 2011 municipal elections can register with the Board of Canvassers. Candidates for the positions of mayor, City Council or School Committee must file a declaration of candidacy by August 30. Nomination papers will be issued on Tuesday, September 6 and must contain 100 valid signatures before they are returned by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20.
