Tuesday: Give Blood, Tennis and Prescriptions

Today's a good day to help out your fellow man and take in a tennis match.

 

Good morning, Woonsocket - Here's a look at things happening today in and around the city:

1) Give blood - The Rhode Island Blood Center will hold a blood drive today at in the Chapel Hall, 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Don't forget the hemoglobin.

2) Free prescription screening - Mark your calendars for tomorrow, 11 a.m., at the Lincoln Senior Center, 150 Jenckes Hill Road, Lincoln, for free medication screening. U.S. Senator Jack Reed is teaming up with the University of Rhode Island (URI) College of Pharmacy, CVS/pharmacy, and RI Script Your Future to provide the screening and health checks for local seniors at a health fair.

3) Tennis - Today, come out and cheer on the Woonsocket High School Varsity Boys' Spring Tennis team, 3 p.m. at the Aylsworth Tennis Courts. This afternon the home team plays North Smithfield High School.

4) Holding it together - On this day in 1849, the safety pin was patented by Walter Hunt, according to brainyhistory.com. He sold the rights to it for $100.

5) Weather - Today, the temperature will get as high as 60 degrees, with a chance of showers in the afternoon, according to weather.com.
