Wednesday: COPS Walk, School Committee, City Council and LASER

It's a busy day in a routinely bustling city, so fire up your smart phone calendars, or open your old school calendars, and take note of these things to know:

COPS Walk - The four-day, 13-officer relay will kick off this morning at 9 a.m. at Woonsocket Police Headquarters, 242 Clinton St. Send good vibes or show up in person to see the officers off on their walk south to raise funds for COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors). This year they walk in honor of Officer Albert Lemoine.

School Committee - The Committee members meet again tonight at 7 p.m. in the Hamlet Building, 70 Florence Drive. Among the several things on their agenda (see attached .pdf): Discussion/Vote to appoint a Part-Time Finance Director.

City Council - The Woonsocket City Council will meet for a working session tonight. Among the items to be discussed (see another attached .pdf) is The Synagro Power Plant's taxable status.

LASER - On this day in 1962, a LASER (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) beam was successfully bounced off the Moon for first time, according to brainyhistory.com.
