Wednesday Five: Officer arrested, School Committee, Calendar, Candidates

Officer charged - Yesterday, Woonsocket Police reported they had arrested and charged WPD Officer Patrick Cahill with assault on a 9-year-old girl. Cahill was arraigned in District Court and released on $5,000 personal recognizance. Further details on the arrest and charges against Cahill will be released today.
Committee - The Woonsocket School Committee meets tonight, 7 p.m., at the Hamlet Building, 60 Florence Drive. On their agenda: A discussion on the job description for the department's Director of Curriculum and updates on the Budget Commission and the strategic planning process.

Register to vote - Oct. 7 is the deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 6 election, and Oct. 16 is the deadline to request a mail-in ballot. The deadline to register to vote in the Sept. 11 primary has passed, but if you were already registered, you're OK. If you're an unaffiliated voter, you can vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary - just ask the poll worker to to dis-affiliate you on the way out after to return to independent status. This election season voters will also be required to show a voter ID.
