Woonsocket Police Log: Burglar Caught In Alex's Market

The following arrest information was supplied by the Woonsocket Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Basement search turns up potential burglar

Randy Plasse, 39, of 562 Privilege St. was arrested on Saturday for breaking and entering, and resisting arrest. Police arrived at on Arnold Street to find several people in the road who directed them to the back of the building where owner Miguel Picardo was holding the door shut. Picardo was notified by a neighbor that a shirtless man was trying to get into the store.  When the store owner arrived, the man, later identified as Plasse, was reportedly inside the building but ducked and hid upon being spotted. Officers searched the basement of the market and located Plasse, who struggled and would not allow police to cuff him.  According to police reports, once Plasse was restrained, officers noticed a a bad smell and Plasse confessed to defecating in his pants.

Rene Martel, 35, with no present address on file, was arrested on Sunday for three charges of injuring or tampering with vehicles and one charge of weapons other firearms. Police received three separate reports of cars being tampered with in the area of Huntington Avenue and Prospect Street (including one resident with video footage of the suspect) and allegedly found Martel walking down the road with overstuffed pockets. A pat-down revealed three knives, three lighters, a cellphone and case, sunglasses, five pencils, $5.94 in change and three dollar bills. A tote with paperwork that was later reported stolen was found thrown in the street.

A second suspect, William Matson, was with Martel when he was located but was originally allowed to leave because he was not in possession of any of the property. Charges were later brought against Matson when officers viewed video surveillance footage of one of the incidents.

Other police activity

Magaly Then, 53, of 85 Blackstone St. was arrested at Ocean State Job Lot on Friday for shoplifting.

Stephen Michael Glode, 19, of 56 Hazel St. was arrested on Jeffers Street on Friday for domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct.

Cory Frank Cheshire, 25, of 39 Bellevue Ave. was arrested at Brunswick Hill Bowl on Saturday for disorderly conduct and assault. 

Scott Alan Fernandes, 31, of 498 Park Ave. was arrested at 173 Summer St. on Sunday for three warrants, obstructing an officer in the line of duty and resisting arrest.

John Lanoue, 21, of 30 Ascension St. was arrested at 64 Bourdon Blvd. for resisting arrest and assault on a police officer.

Vanessa Raines, 21, of 38 Blackstone St. was arrested at 128 Blackstone St. for obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct.
