Charleston Water System continuing to replace lead pipes throughout North Charleston and the Peninsula (live5news.com) — Charleston Water System is planning a $36 million project to remove nearly 1,000 remaining lead service lines in North Charleston and the Charleston peninsula, focusing first on disadvantaged neighborhoods. Officials stress the water is currently safe but want long-term protection, and they're inviting residents to an Oct. 21 public meeting to learn more and share feedback.
   

2. HOT PROPERTIES: A $65 million project leads this construction roundup (scbiz.com) — Major upgrades are underway at several Charleston institutions, including renovations to a historic Citadel building on Huger Street, a refreshed lobby and auditorium at the College of Charleston's Robert Scott Smalls building, and 2,000 new visitor seats at Johnson Hagood Stadium. These projects promise better campus spaces and a stronger game-day experience for local students, fans, and residents.
   

3. Marcus & Millichap Announces Sale of South Carolina Hotel (lodgingmagazine.com) — A North Charleston Staybridge Suites near Ashley Phosphate Road and I-26 has been sold after drawing more than a dozen offers, underscoring strong investor interest in the Charleston hotel market. The 93-room property sits near Tanger Outlets and Charleston International Airport, and brokers say it marks their 17th hotel sale in the area in five years.
   

4. New historical marker highlights Folly Beach connection to 'Porgy and Bess' (counton2.com) — A new historical marker at the Porgy House on Folly Beach now honors the place where George Gershwin and DuBose Heyward shaped Porgy and Bess, rooted in 1920s Charleston. Relatives of Charleston resident Samuel Smalls, the real-life inspiration for Porgy, joined the unveiling and hope visitors better understand the opera's deep connections to local people and Lowcountry history.
   

5. Charleston Opera Theater unveils 2026-27 season lineup (counton2.com) — Charleston Opera Theater has unveiled its 2026-27 season, giving local arts lovers plenty to look forward to at the College of Charleston's Sottile Theatre. The lineup includes a November operatic cabaret, an April production of La traviata with the Charleston Symphony, plus fall fundraisers like Cocktails for a Cause and Opera on the Half Shell supporting future programming.
