City of Charleston reaches settlement agreement on future of Dash Hall remnant, approves demolition with conditions (live5news.com) — Charleston City Council has approved a settlement allowing demolition of the historic Dash Hall remnant, while giving preservation groups less than 90 days to relocate and save the structure. Advocates argue the building is a vital piece of Black jazz history on Smith Street and are now racing to find a new steward before the owner can remove it entirely.
   

2. Charleston city, county move toward affordable housing plan for downtown Morrison Drive site (abcnews4.com) — City and county leaders are reviving a major affordable housing project for the 6-acre Morrison Drive site in downtown Charleston, with a new partnership where the county keeps the land and the city leads design and development. Residents, especially hospitality workers, share concerns about rising costs and infrastructure as Project 3500 aims to add thousands of affordable units on the peninsula by 2032.
   

3. Charleston Waterkeeper tests local waterways for bacteria (abcnews4.com) — Water quality in popular Charleston-area creeks and rivers is being closely monitored through Charleston Waterkeeper's Swim Alert program, which tests 20 sites weekly for bacteria. Results, processed at the College of Charleston, show lower bacteria levels this year, and organizers are already seeking local volunteers for next season to help keep recreational waters safe.
   

4. Drought continues to impact South Carolina (theitem.com) — Charleston County's drought status has been improved from severe to moderate, but conditions remain serious across much of South Carolina. State officials report that high temperatures and uneven summer rainfall are still stressing crops, water supplies, and wildfire risk. Residents are urged to stay cautious with outdoor burning as fall's typically dry season approaches.

Inside look: Bonaire Park, Summerville's first-of-its-kind entertainment development (counton2.com) — A new mixed-use venue at Bonaire Park in Summerville aims to bring a Charleston-style rooftop bar and event space closer to Charleston-area residents. With construction underway, town leaders say the project could boost local business, reduce trips downtown, and anchor a walkable district of housing, retail, and green space by year's end.
