Charleston to dedicate Fort Pemberton Park on Thursday (counton2.com) — Charleston city leaders are officially dedicating the new 8.7-acre Fort Pemberton Park on James Island, giving residents waterfront access along the Stono River. The park, once a Civil War fort and later private land, now offers a fishing dock, kayak launch, walking paths, picnic shelter and ADA-accessible entrances for both the historic fort area and shoreline.

2. Charleston announces Akua Page as winner of 2026 MOJA Arts Festival poster design (abcnews4.com) — Charleston's Office of Cultural Affairs has chosen North Charleston artist Akua Page to design the official 2026 MOJA Arts Festival poster, which celebrates Gullah Geechee culture alongside Jamaica, Barbados and Sierra Leone. Starting Sept. 24, you can buy the poster at Cannon Arts Center, City Gallery at Waterfront Park, and during the Oct. 1 MOJA finale at Hampton Park.

City of Charleston Names David Pettine Section Chief of Planning, Permitting, and Engineering (holycitysinner.com) — Charleston residents will soon see a new leader guiding how development, permitting, and infrastructure are managed as the city appoints veteran planner David Pettine Section Chief of Planning, Permitting and Engineering. With decades of experience in North and South Carolina, he's tasked with improving coordination, efficiency, and service for residents and the development community.

4. Lewis Hatch Chile Roast Returns to Charleston Oct. 4 (holycitysinner.com) — Charleston food lovers can mark their calendars for Oct. 4, when Rancho Lewis hosts the ninth annual Lewis Hatch Chile Roast with 4,000 pounds of chiles, live music, and family activities. Local restaurants and chefs will serve chile-inspired dishes, admission is free with a suggested donation to Charleston nonprofit The Green Heart Project, and preorders of Hatch chiles are available online.

College of Charleston Welcomes New Faculty (charleston.edu) — The College of Charleston is introducing a new group of faculty members across English, math, physics, international studies, accounting and engineering, many with ties to the Lowcountry. These professors bring expertise ranging from Gullah Geechee-adjacent environmental humanities to renewable energy and public-sector accounting, and they're eager to mentor Charleston students and deepen the academic offerings on campus this fall.
