Charleston County Library opens temporary site during renovations (live5news.com) — Charleston County Public Library has opened its temporary Main at Morrison location on Morrison Drive to keep core services available while the Calhoun Street Main Library undergoes an 18‑month renovation. Patrons can access collections, computers, and light programming downtown, including October's seasonal events, while a separate temporary site houses the South Carolina Room on James Island.
   

2. City of Charleston rewriting its zoning code for the first time since 1966 (live5news.com) — Charleston officials are overhauling the city's zoning code for the first time since 1966, aiming to simplify rules and add a Low Elevation Overlay to better manage flood‑prone land. Residents are invited to learn more and give feedback at Peninsula Plan Open Studio Hours on October 22, ahead of finalizing the new code early next year.
   

3. Ville to Ville Coastal Relay Brings 1,200 Runners to the Charleston Area (holycitysinner.com) — A sold-out 68-mile Ville to Ville Coastal Relay will send 1,200 runners from Summerville through North Charleston and Charleston to Mount Pleasant on October 17, with roads remaining open to traffic. Teams will run in waves starting before dawn, and local groups will staff transition areas to earn donations, bringing extra energy and charitable impact to the Charleston area.
   

4. Hanahan man arrested after DUI crash into N. Charleston home: Police (counton2.com) — A North Charleston family's home was hit early Sunday when a Hanahan man allegedly drove drunk off Ashby Avenue and crashed into the residence, according to police. Officers say the driver showed signs of intoxication, failed field sobriety tests, and later registered a 0.17% breath alcohol level at the Al Cannon Detention Center before being charged with DUI.
   

5. Inaugural 'Dear Charleston Forum' focuses on homelessness in the Lowcountry (counton2.com) — Community leaders met in downtown Charleston for the first Dear Charleston Forum, tackling homelessness and housing instability affecting local families and students in Charleston County schools. Star Gospel Mission is using the week to spark collaboration, from a 24-hour "Conversations on a Bench" livestream to a World Homeless Day Gala at the Charleston Gaillard Center.

    I got a text message asking if a credit card charge was valid. That was followed by calls from people following up on the bad charge who knew a lot… (Nextdoor Old Windermere)
  • Hey guys, while driving on the Wappoo bridge today, we saw a dog sitting on the very edge of the bridge, just inches from falling over and a few people stopped trying to get it to come to them and I am praying that Almighty God the dog didn't fall
    over the bridge. If anybody saw what was going on, I know the status of what happened. Can you please post it here because that was the saddest thing… (Nextdoor Canal)
