Allstate volunteers earn $69,000 for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

69 Allstate agency owners and financial specialists earn $69,000 grant for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's South Carolina Chapter

Sixty-nine Allstate agency owners and financial specialists from Greenville and the surrounding area recently came together to secure a $69,000 Allstate Foundation Helping Hands® grant to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s South Carolina Chapter. The grant will support the nonprofit organization’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

The agency owners and financial specialists each earned $1,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s South Carolina Chapter by raising awareness and obtaining silent auction items for a final celebration event during a 10-week campaign to find a cure for the 2017 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Upstate Girl of the Year, Lilly of Greenville, in May. Lilly was diagnosed with Pre B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in January of 2015 when she was eight years old and underwent chemotherapy, a transplant and radiation treatments. She had a tough time following her transplant, but now she is nearly cancer free, back in school and well on her way to living a normal life.

Led by Agency Owner Tommy Meadows, Team Good Hands Warriors raised awareness during the campaign by collecting monetary donations. Together with Allstate Foundation Helping Hands grants, silent auction items, finale tickets, and donations, Team Good Hands Warriors raised more than $74,000, and Tommy earned the title of 2017 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Upstate Man of the Year. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s South Carolina Chapter will use the $69,000 grant to further its work in the community.
