The Spice & Tea Exchanges Opens in Downtown Spartanburg
Local Entrepreneurs Open Gourmet, Experience-Based Store Offering More than 85 Custom Spice Blends, Loose Leaf Teas & More

The Spice & Tea Exchange®, a specialty retail store offering an extensive selection of exotic teas from around the world, spices and exclusive hand-mixed blends and naturally flavored sugars and salts, will host a special event on September 27 in downtown Spartanburg, located at 135 W. Main Street.
To celebrate their store’s recent opening, local owners Marc and Cathy Desmarais are inviting the community to a grand opening event on September 27 from 11:00a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the new store. The event will feature –
- Ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:00 a.m.
- Chef Leslie Lattanzio preparing delicious food all day from the store’s recipe rack, lots of food to sample along with beverages
- Door prizes and in-store specials
The Spice & Tea Exchange of Spartanburg offers an experience for all the senses. Upon arrival, guests are transported into a charming 18th century trading post atmosphere. Customers can explore the store, open apothecary-style jars to smell the fragrant spices, and receive helpful advice on cooking and flavors from an enthusiastic team of staff members. Employees also hand-mix custom spice blends, serve flavorful teas, craft unique gifts in front of guests, and eagerly help them find what they are looking for.

The Spice & Tea Exchange’s arrival to downtown Spartanburg complements the increasing number of restaurants in the area by offering an interactive, flavor-oriented shopping experience. The store’s layout is designed for hosting engaging events open to the public, including weekly cooking demonstrations. Starting in October, The Spice & Tea Exchange will host cooking events featuring established Spartanburg chefs to help guests learn how to cook.
In addition to the interactive sensory experience for visitors, The Spice & Tea Exchange will supply ingredients, such as spices, rubs and teas, to many of Spartanburg’s popular restaurants. The new store offers ingredients, such as Carolina BBQ Rub, Bourbon Black Walnut Sugar and Black Truffle Sea Salt, which allow eateries to add bold flavors and a bit of southern flair to their dishes.

“We have embraced the downtown Spartanburg community, and they have embraced us,” Desmarais said. “We want to build on our relationships with restaurants and businesses in Spartanburg, and be an active member of our community.”
Alongside the variety of products offered for home cooking, The Spice & Tea Exchange will serve fresh tea on-the-go to visitors at their full-service tea bar. The tea bar features an expansive menu of tea blends including Earl Grey, Crème Brulee, White Tropical and the store’s unique Spartanburg Iced Tea, which is an iced tea flavored with fresh mint.
“It’s more than just tea,” Desmarais said. “We have created an environment that allows us to help the community explore new flavors by hosting events and cooking demonstrations that will be open to the public. Food has a way of bringing people together, and our store is designed to do just that.”
