Update: Chapin Boil Water Advisory Lifted
A 12-inch water main break prompted the City of Columbia to issue a boil water advisory for residents near and in the town of Chapin.

Update: A boil water advistory for the Chapin area has been lifted.
Customers from Old Lexington Highway at Primrose Lane north to the town of Chapin no longer need to boil their water before drinking or cooking.
Bacteria samples were collected by the City of Columbia Water Works and the water determined to be safe to use.

Original, 11:55 a.m. Jan. 5: A 12-inch water main break prompted the City of Columbia to issue a boil water
advisory for residents near and in the town of Chapin.
The advisory covers homes, schools and businesses in an area stretching from the
Old Lexington Highway at Primrose Lane north through the town of Chapin and
includes numerous eating establishments and several schools. Both Chapin High School and the Alternative Academy have announced early closings today due to lack of water pressure and safety concerns.

Residents in the affected area are urged to vigorously boil for at least one minute any water intended for drinking or use in food. This includes water used to make
ice cubes, a City of Columbia Water Works statement said.
Anyone living near the affected area who has lost water pressure should also follow advisory precautions.
