Come Meet Chapin’s New Chief of Police

Next Wednesday, January 11, come meet Chapin's New Police Chief Troy Crump at the Chamber House.

Well it never hurts to make a good first impression and those of us living in Chapin may want to carve out some time next Wednesday evening to meet the new “Chief” in town. That’s Chapin’s new Chief of Police Troy Crump who began his service to our community on Christmas Day!

The Greater Chapin Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Exit Real Estate Consultants and Harrell and Martin Attorneys to hold a Meet & Greet for the community at the Chamber House on Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. You can come shake the Chief’s hand and say a few kind words, and I’m pretty sure there will be some light refreshments. There usually are at chamber meetings. More importantly you will be able to hear from the man we have tasked with leading our community’s public safety efforts.

Chief Crump is no stranger to the Chapin community. In fact, he has lived in Chapin much of his life. A 1991 graduate of Chapin High School, Crump earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University in Florida, where he graduated with honors. He later attended the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and has completed a number of specialized law enforcement trainings over his 19-year career.

The Chief (doesn’t that make you think of Carroll O’Connor and Heat of the Night?) most recently worked for the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, where he served for 13 years in several positions including deputy sheriff, school resource officer and a senior crime investigator. Prior to that, he served as a police officer with the Columbia Police Department for six years.

Chief Crump is married and has two children. He attends Chapin Baptist Church where he also serves as a children’s pastor.

I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to meeting the Chief. I hope he will be a caring and professional public servant that will keep the interests and safety of our citizens a priority during his tenure with the police department. Given what I’ve read about his past experience, I think that would be a fairly good assumption.

The Chamber House is located at 302 Columbia Avenue in Chapin, and you may call 803-345-1100 if you need additional information about Wednesday’s event.
