Supporting We Care With Your Golf Clubs
The Sticky Open Golf Tournament helps provide valuable support to the We Care Center, which provides food and warmth to those in need.

We Care Interfaith Ministry started in the late 80s as Chapin's own version of Harvest Hope Food Bank. The interdemoninational ministry is supported by Chapin area churches to provide emergency relief for food, utility assistance, referrals, life skills and other needs.
We Care is the beneficiary of many local organizations in the community which support the center through food drives and cash donations. Chapin High School raised more than $7,000 for the center last year. Local Boy Scout troops and Postal Workers collect thousands of pounds of food during their annual food collection drives.
Many of the local Vacation Bible Schools collect canned goods for We Care, and the area grocery stores, Bi-Lo and Food Lion, are great supporters that contribute wonderful produce and meat selections for We Care clients.

This Saturday, We Care will host its annual fundraiser, the We Care Sticky Open. Its the third year the golf tournament has benefitted the food pantry, and it got its unique name from the organizer Alex Ciani. "I used to work for Anchor Continental which was a Columbia duct tape manufacturer. I took over coordinating this annual golf tournament at Timberlake about 10 years ago and changed the name to Sticky Open."
According to Ciani, coordinating the logistics of the entire event got to be overwhelming so he enlisted the support of some We Care board members and the event was changed to the We Care Sticky Open in 2010. He says the We Care volunteers provide a great help in working the event and coordinating various aspects.

"What we need is more players. Last year we had 77 golfers, but we only have 40 signed on so far," Ciani explained. People can call him directly to reserve a spot by calling 345-5486 or 331-3302. Registration is $65 plus five cans of food per player. This includes greens and cart fees, range balls, favors for all players, prizes, and a delicious dinner of chicken and ribs upon conclusion of play.
Held at Timberlake Country Club, there will be a shotgun start at 9 am. There are a number of contests lined up and mulligans will be available for $5 each. Men and women are welcome to participate. He asks that all golfers wear collared shirts and no denim. No personal coolers will be allowed either.
