The fatal collision occurred around 10:40 a.m. on U.S. Highway 378 at Old Cherokee Road, said Lexington police Lt. Carroll Bledsoe. The wreck diverted traffic in the area for several hours.

Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman identified the victim as six-year-old Emma Longstreet of Lexington. The child, who was wearing a seatbelt, was traveling in a van with several other family members on their way to morning services at Northside Baptist Church.

According to police reports, the family's vehicle was struck in the side by a car driven by Billy Patrick Hutto, Jr., 26, of Gilbert. The collision also caused another vehicle to be struck.
