Best Lexington Park: Virginia Hylton Park

The park behind Town Hall takes top honors in our latest Readers' Choice poll.

By early-morning Friday, with the heat already climbing, Virginia Hylton Park behind was already beginning to teem with parents and children, which is a testament to the park's popularity.

And it must be popular, because Hylton Park ran away with this week's Readers' Choice poll for best area park, garnering 54 percent of the vote, far outdistancing its five competitors.

"We love this park," said a young mom with two twin three-year-olds in tow.  We come here at least two to three times a week if the either cooperates. "We've made so many friends here and it's our go-to spot for playdates. And it's just perfect right now for the moms and dads because all the azaleas are in full bloom and just gorgeous."

In addition to beautiful flowers and flowering bushes, and large, old shade trees, the park offers a host of amenities, including a large playground, walking trail, horseshoe pit, a separate playground for children with disabilities, and a covered performance stage that can be rented for special events.

The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Check out next week's Readers' Choice poll, where we will ask Patch readers their choice for "Best Breakfast." Voting in that poll begins Monday morning. Be sure to vote!
