Burglars Hit Lake Murray Houseboat

Two men have been arrested on charges they broke in and stole several items from a Lake Murray houseboat on Wednesday, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said deputies arrested Shane Alexander Hurley, 22, of 256 John Long Road, Lot A-7, Gilbert, and Lee Thomas Johnson, 32, of 301 Barberry Drive, Lexington, each on a charge of first-degree burglary. 

Metts said the pair allegedly broke into a houseboat that was docked on Lake Murray off John Long Road near Gilbert and stole one Boss stereo unit, one Century battery charger, one air compressor, one toaster oven, and one trolling motor.

"Deputies developed information that Hurley and Johnson broke into the house boat at about 3:40 a.m. on Wednesday," Metts said, without elaborating. Detectives later obtained arrest warrants for Hurley and Johnson. Deputies went to Hurley’s home and arrested Hurley at about 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Deputies arrested Johnson near Hurley’s home at about noon on Wednesday.

Hurley and Johnson were being held without bond on Thursday at the Lexington County Detention Center.
