Bus Driver Charged with DUI Requests Jury Trial

was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, but instead has requested a jury trial, according to this report by WIS-TV.

Batesburg-Leesville Police charged Walter Davidson, 61, with DUI and child endangerment after he struck a bus in the school's loading zone on April 19. That bus then struck another bus.

Davidson, who has since been fired by the school district, had a blood-alcohol level of .20 -- five times the legal limit for a commercial operator, police said.

While no injuries were reported in the immediate aftermath of the accident, several children have since complained of headaches or back pain, the station reported.

"The collision resulted in broken glass on two of the buses, and a dented back end on one of them. The district has urged parents to have kids checked out by doctors and to provide the district with any bills that might result from those visits to the doctor's office," the station's report said.
