Lexington Motorcycle Event Will Endow Scholarships for Children of War Dead

Attention motorcyclists: Time to polish your brain buckets and tune up your hogs. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in partnership with the Chapin Police Department and American Legion Riders Chapter 193 in Chapin will conduct a motorcycle benefit ride and chili cook-off on Saturday, Aug. 13.
The event will raise money for college scholarships awarded by the American Legion Legacy Fund. Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts says all proceeds from the motorcycle benefit ride and chili cook-off will benefit the fund. And this just isn't any old college fund. This fund provides college scholarships for students whose parents were killed in the line of duty while serving in the United States armed forces during the global war on terror, Metts says.
Registration for the ride will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13 at S&S Road Consultants, Inc., 930 Chapin Road, Chapin. Motorcycle riders will begin departing at 12:30 p.m. and return no later than 4 p.m.

Motorcycle riders will cruise in areas near Lake Murray, Metts says. The cost is $20 per motorcycle rider and $30 per motorcycle rider who has a passenger.
Sgt. David Amick, who supervises the Sheriff’s Department Chapin Patrol District, will help coordinate the event, Metts says. Citizens who want to participate in the chili cook-off are asked to contact Amick at (803) 960-9415 or email davidlamick@gmail.com.
