CSES Blends iPads Into Music Curriculum

After some experimentation, the new iPad ensemble of Carolina Springs Elementary students is already learning songs and performing for audiences.

recently incorporated iPads into the music curriculum.

CSES Music Teachers Barbara Burns and David Headrick formed the group after Headrick saw a video of an iPad band on YouTube.

A group of CSES teachers and administrators first tried out different applications on the iPad to see which instruments worked well together. Then, they assembled a group of fifth-graders who could read music and demonstrated the musical aptitude needed to play in the iPad ensemble.

With the iPad technology students have learned how to play many songs including “Old Joe Clark”, “A Ragtime Song” and the “Star-Spangled Banner.”

Since learning how to play the instruments on the iPad, the students have performed for an AdvanceED team as well as at the Chick-fil-A Leadercast held at Lexington Technology Center.
