High-Speed Chase and Flying TVs

Man arrested for theft of flat-screens from local Wal-Mart

A local man is in jail for theft and other charges after he allegedly stole four flat-screen TVs from the Red Bank Wal-Mart on Friday.

But it was far from a simple collar. According to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, deputies had to dodge flying TVs as they chased the suspect down the road during a high-speed chase.

During the course of the pursuit, two of the televisions fell off of the top of the vehicle where the suspect had placed them without securing them. The pursuit ended at 219 Stagecoach Road, Gaston, where the suspect lives. Deputies arrested Edward August Spellman III, 36, and charged him with larceny and failure to stop for a blue light, the Sheriff's Department said.

Investigators said a review of surveillance cameras inside the store showed Spellman go to a stack of TVs in the aisle, grab four of them and force his way out of the retail doors that were closed for the night. The manager of the store said the TVs were worth almost $2500, WIS-TV reported.
