Letter: Why We Are Voting For Katrina Shealy

A Lexington resident explains why Katrina Shealy has his vote for the S.C. Senate District 23 seat.

When Katrina Shealy came through our neighborhood knocking on doors, we indeed, were blessed with both her presence, listening to her political competence and her community commitments. A day which we will always remember. After a very interesting conversation, we engaged in prayer for all the blessings we enjoy in this land, and we wished her well in her admirable political quest for service in her Lexington community and the S.C. Legislature.

My wife and I are convinced that she is a lady of true grit. She demonstrated great courage in fighting back with a petition vote. In her words and messages, she conveys hope, vision, and clarity of purpose, and an ability to bring out the best in the legislature and community. She has a keen understanding of how small businesses develop and grow because she got her start in a small family business at the age of thirteen. She does not quit. She understands that she is a model of what committed service can do to inspire people. Her life's story is very strong testimony of this fact. She has a love for the community and its people. She will listen to all.

The Shealy name is a well-thought-of name in the State of S.C., and particularly in Lexington County. Every time one meanders across our beautiful Lake Murray on the Ryan Shealy highway, one can think of what a blessing of recreation and water resource that this is. Other folks with the name of Shealy that have led the way with conviction, insight, and vision are still with us. This family trait can be extended to the youngest Shealy that has ever served in the SC. Legislature, when Sherry, became a representative to the S.C. Senate when still a student at USC. Her brother, Ryan Shealy, already distinguished himself as a talented student in computer studies with my wife, Janet, at the Lexington Technological Center. Adam Steele, a cousin of Katrina, and a highly respected member of the S.C. Lutheran Synod Board, demonstrates a leadership understanding of how the church can really serve people. In other words, there is a great service orientation bred in the roots of the Shealy family that serve all of us.

There is more, much more, as to why my wife and I are casting our vote for this courageous woman. She has the courage of her convictions. Indeed, she is not going to sell out. As a member of St. James Lutheran church, she is governed by values which stress strong family links, and she has our endorsement for the sanctity of Biblical marriage. She loves children, and she wants to insure that social services are doing their job, and that all the children of this blessed County of Lexington will have the best of educational services, highway connections, and natural resource development and preservation. She understands that all people and their needs have importance. She really understands that the true nature of a great politician is to be a great servant. Katrina, has that indispensable quality within her makeup.

With too much drifting in our American values and moral values, Katrina, represents a fresh vote, an innovative and courageous woman from Lexington County, SC., that would establish a new foundation of trust, in a mistrustful age, and that after all is said and done, Katrina, is the woman to lead our district.

Finally, we all can sleep a little better knowing that this caring, courageous woman, carrying our voices of concern to the seats of governmental power, will have an honest voice in Katrina Shealy, who will work unstintingly  on our behalf.
