Lexington 1 Names Smith WKMS Principal
The Pelion Middle assistant principal will take over for returning principal Nancy Turner.

Guy A. Smith has been promoted to the position of White Knoll Middle School principal effective July 1, 2012, the Lexington 1 school board announced.
Smith, currently serving as assistant principal at Pelion Middle School, replaces retiring Principal Nancy Turner. He has 32 years of education experience and began his education career in 1979 as a social studies teacher at Richland Northeast High School in Richland School District Two.
He joined Lexington 1 in 1981 as a social studies teacher at Pelion High School. At PHS, he taught social studies, served as department chair and coached various sports including tennis, junior varsity basketball and varsity track.

He was promoted to the position of administrative assistant at Pelion Elementary School in 2000. He was again promoted in 2001 to the position of assistant principal at Pelion Middle School.
Smith graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in education and an Interdisciplinary Master of Arts in history and education from the University of South Carolina. He is certified in social studies and secondary administration.
