Lexington 1 Seniors Seek Prestigious Scholarships
Several district students have been named finalists for National Merit Scholarships.
A group of high-achieving Lexington One seniors have advanced to the next round in the National Merit Scholarship Competition, district officials announced.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation named students Laura Andrews, Samuel Dacus, Ian Langford, Kathryn Laurence, James Porter, Lee Reams, Charles Roberts, along with Pelion High student Matt Treaster, National Merit Scholarship Finalists.
In the fall of 2011 they advanced to the semifinalist round based on their scores on the qualifying test. As finalists, they now compete for National Merit Scholarships based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments.
In addition to the Merit Scholar finalists, student Lotus Bell has been named a National Achievement Scholarship Finalist. Sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, this program recognizes outstanding Black American high school students.
Bell advanced through two rounds based on her PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test scores and now competes for National Achievement and corporate-sponsored achievement scholarships.
