Lexington County Council Might Consider a 'Rain Tax'

Such a Fee on Property Owners Would Help Fix Drainage Problems

Discussion about drainage problems throughout Lexington County prompted some County Council members Tuesday night to consider the idea of a "rain tax," The State reported.

The fee, the newspaper said, might be considered as a way to pay for fixing drainage problems created by storm-related floods in some neighborhoods and to meet upcoming clean-water standards.

Homeowners in Columbia pay a $4.80 fee each month. Businesses are charged varying amounts based on the size of their facility, the newspaper reported.
