Lexington Science Standout Making a Name in Physics
Ben Barlett, 17, gained an interest in physics at an early age and has won several state and national science awards this school year.

Lexington High junior Ben Bartlett won top honors at state and national science events this school year.
The science star, who prefers to spend his time studying physics, became the first South Carolinian to win first place at the 50th National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium held in Bethesda, Md., in May.
Later that month at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh, he also won an all-expenses paid trip to the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Switzerland.

Bartlett, who was homeschooled until high school, developed an early interest in science, his mother Melissa Barlett told The State. With two parents who both studied science, it wasn't a surprise though.
Ben has taken six classes at the Universtiy of South Carolina and plans to continue studying there this summer, according to the story.

Don Jordan, a mathematics professor at the University of South Carolina and a mentor to Bartlett, told The State that he expects big things from Barlett, such as using his engineering or physics skills to do research in medicine.
