Lexington Inmates Pursue 'Personal Growth'
Faith-based programs coordinated through county jail graduate 23 prisoners.

A total of 23 inmates at the Lexington County Detention Center recently graduated from two faith-based programs that teach inmates how to understand psychological needs and other factors that can result in criminal behavior.
Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said 17 inmates successfully completed the eight-week Celebrate Recovery program that First Baptist Church of Lexington administers at the county Detention Center.
"The goal of the program is to enhance the spiritual lives of inmates and show inmates how they can use their faith to overcome personal problems and experience emotional growth in their lives," the sheriff said.
A total of nine inmates also successfully completed the In Pursuit of Happiness program that is administered at the Detention Center, Metts said. Three of the nine inmates also completed the Celebrate Recovery program.
