Lexington One Opens Kindergarten Enrollment
District now accepting applications for 4-year-old kindergarten to start next school year.

Lexington County School District One is now accepting applications for 4-year-old kindergarten for the 2012–2013 school year.
Parents with children 4 years old on or before September 1, 2012, may apply for the district program at the elementary or primary school in their attendance area. Parents have until Thursday, May 24, to submit an application.
To apply, please bring your child’s birth certificate (the long form that gives parents’ names — not the short certificate or wallet card) and a completed South Carolina Certificate of Immunization to the school for which your child is zoned.

For proof of residency, please bring a current electric bill/statement showing your name and home address within the district and your S.C. driver’s license or other state or federal photograph identification.
After applying, parents receive notification of a time and date for their child to be evaluated for the program. Students must participate in the assessment to be considered for the program.

Assessments will take place May 24–25 and May 29–31 at the school that the parent applied. During the evaluation, children participate in fun activities, such as identifying pictures, drawing and interacting with trained teachers.
After the assessment, parents will receive notification by phone or by mail of the results and will learn if their child was accepted into the 4K program.
Students accepted in the program attend either a morning session (7:40–10:15 a.m.) or an afternoon session (11:45 a.m.–2:15 p.m.)Bus transportation to and from school is provided for students residing in the school’s attendance area. If a child resides outside of the school’s attendance area, parents or guardians must provide transportation.
