Lexington Woman Charged With Forgery
The woman filed a fraudulent W-2 form and received tax refunds of thousands of dollars, investigators with the S.C. Department of Revenue say.
A Lexington woman was arrested Thursday after investigators say she filed a false W-2 form and received tax refunds of more than $7,000.
Lachanda Simmons, 33, is charged with forgery.
Investigators with the S.C. Department of Revenue say that in 2010, Simmons provided her personal information to a tax preparer to have a 2009 income tax return - which included a fradulent W-2 form - filed in her name, according to a press release from the department.

She received then received tax refunds of $7,252, according to the release.
Simmons is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia pending a bond hearing.

If convicted of the forgery charge, she could face up to five years in prison and/or be fined at the discretion of the court.
