Pair Arrested in Alleged Identity Scam
Man and woman from Swansea accused of exploiting mentally ill family member to obtain credit cards
A man and woman from Lexington County were arrested Tuesday by SLED agents on charges of exploitation of a vulnerable adult, according to warrants.
Arrested were Willie Jarvard Edmond, 47, of 934 Stevenson Road, Swansea, and Robin Ann Edmond, 50, of 1005 Jones Wire Road, also of Swansea.
According to warrants, both suspects allegedly obtained the victim's identifying information and used it to open numerous credit card accounts in the victim's name. Then, the warrants allege, the duo used the cards to purchase items in South Carolina, Florida, and over the Internet.
Warrants state the female suspect was the victim's sister, while the male suspect was the victim's brother-in-law. The victim, who was not identified, was a patient at the Lexington County Mental Health Center.
Willie Edmond was released from the Lexington County Detention Center after posting a $10,000 bond. Robin Edmond was still being held Tuesday on a $5,000 bond.
The allegations stem from a Vulnerable Adult Hot-Line call SLED received on July 8, 2010, the agency reported. The case will be prosecuted by the Eleventh Circuit Solicitors’ Office.
