Report: Lexington's Roland Nabs "Mr. Football" Title

Stand-out receiver and USC commitment Shaq Roland of LHS honored as state's top high school player

Racking up 29 touchdowns and amassing more than 2,000 yards receiving, rushing, and returning kicks this season, Lexington High School's all-star wide receiver Shaq Roland has captured the coveted title of South Carolina's "Mr. Football." 

The award was presented Friday night at Myrtle Beach High School in conjunction with the SCADA North-South All Star Game weekend.

Roland, a linchpin for Lexington's explosive offense this season, is the fourth straight USC Gamecock recruit to win the award. 

South Pointe’s Stephon Gilmore won in 2008. Byrnes' Marcus Lattimore won the award in 2009, and South Pointe’s Jadeveon Clowney took the honor last year.

Roland helped lead the Wildcats to an historic undefeated regular season this year, and shined with three touchdowns in the first game of the state AAAA Divison 1 playoffs, .
