Testimony Begins in Murder Trial

In opening statements, prosecutors say blood will be among key evidence, while defense attorneys for Kenneth Andrew Lynch seek to strike possible death sentence.

Testimony is set to begin today in the capital murder trial of Kenneth Andrew Lynch of West Columbia, accused of killing his girlfriend and her granddaughter in 2006.

The trial, taking place in front of a judge instead of a jury at the Lexington County courthouse, will likely hinge on mostly circumstantial evidence. In a story by The State, prosecutors said the blood of seven-year-old Angelica Livingston will be among the key evidence presented.

Complicating the case is the fact that the bodies of the supposed murder victims have never been found.

Lynch's defense has motioned for the death penalty to be taken off the table as a potential punishment in the case, WLTX reported. The motion was denied by Judge Eugene Griffith.
