Top-Ranked 'Cats Advance in Baseball Playoffs
Lexington will play James Island tonight at home on the heels of a 12-game win streak.

Lexington High's top-ranked baseball team cruised past Lugoff-Elgin 13-3 yesterday and is set to take on James Island tonight in the state Class 4A state playoffs.
The home game begins tonight at 7 p.m.
Collin Steagall, who entered the Thursday night game with a .417 batting average and a team-high 23 RBIs, had a 3-for-4 game with three RBIs to pace Lexington’s 12-hit attack, according to this report by The State.
On top of the win, the night was notable for another reason. Before the game, Wildcat players showed off their newly shaved heads in honor of Kennedy Branham, a Lexington Middle School 7th-grader battling brain cancer. Branham also had the honor of throwing out the first pitch.
"This plan came together because a group of high school baseball players realizes that while the fight for a state championship is important, Kennedy’s fight to beat brain cancer is larger than baseball," said "Wildcat Mom" Beth McCrary in a blog post.
"They want to show her that they care and stand by her in her fight," she added. "They will also be wearing Pray4Kennedy stickers on their batting helmets during all playoff games."
