Update: Two Dead in Lake Murray Accident

Man, Woman Die From Head Trauma When Their Boat Hits Dock

Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman says a passenger and the driver of a boat that wrecked on Lake Murray late Friday night both died of severe head trauma, according to a report in The State newspaper.

The passenger, a female who was ejected from the boat, was recovered early Saturday morning by authorities at the shoreline of Billy Dreher Island near the boat ramp. The male driver's body was found and pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims, who reportedly lived together, have been identified as Timothy C. Jones, 53, and Kimberly S. Bailey, 45, both of Batesburg-Leesville. The accident reportedly happened at 10:30 p.m. Friday at 242 Turtle Trail, west of Dreher Island, in Batesburg-Leesville, in a mostly residential part of the lake.

Reports said a trio of boats and an aircraft searched for Bailey before she was located at about 8 a.m. on Saturday. According to Harman, Jones did not see a dock that extended about 60 feet into the lake and struck it about 12 feet from shore, The State reported.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts told Patch he had been told the driver had struck the walkway that led down to the dock.
