Two Lexington County men were killed in separate wrecks this weekend, according to county Coroner Harry Harman.
Lamar Wayne Chavis, 32, of Gaston, died late Saturday night. According to Harman, Chavis was traveling northbound on Whetstone Road toward Swansea when he ran into the passenger side of a 2012 Mustang which had just pulled out from a stop sign on Woodford Road.
Chavis was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed Sunday to determine the cause of death.
In the second wreck, which occurred around 4:15 a.m. Sunday, Allen Chad Smith, 18, of Gilbert, was killed while he was traveling eastbound on Juniper Springs Road. Smith lost control of his 2001 Mustang and went to the right side of the road. He then overcorrected and went off the left side of the road, striking a pine tree, Harman said.
Smith was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy also will be performed on Sunday to determine the cause of death.
Both accidents remain under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
