Wildcats Prepare for State Championship

Lexington High will square off Friday night for the 4A state basketball championship against Gaffney.

Lexington High boys' basketball coach Bailey Harris and star Shaq Roland said Monday in a press conference they looked forward to Friday night's matchup against Gaffney for the state Class AAAA championship.

Roland, a senior, said he vividly remembered the "tough loss" to Gaffney two years ago in the state title game. "It should be motivation for the game Friday," he said.

Coach Harris said no lead will likely be safe against the Indians, but said he believed the key to winning was not only to play "hard and smart," but "get off to a good start."

The game, which will be played at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, tips off at 8:30 p.m.
