Now that I am trying to cook on my own, I have turned to one of my mom's recipes that is a classic hit with the family. I have never had chicken salad that is better than my mom's recipe. The ingredients that are in the chicken salad, singularly I do not like, but mixed all together it becomes one of my favorite foods. There are many different ways to make chicken salad. For example, I love grapes in mine, but my sister does not. My mom likes walnuts in hers, but I do not. At the end of this blog, I will give you a list of "extras" that provide options to give your chicken salad a little flare. Another good thing about this recipe is that the serving size is truly up to you. The recipe that I am giving you will serve four.
Ingredients:
4 chicken breasts (1 per person-bone in will give you more flavor, but boneless works well too)

Salt
Pepper
Garlic salt
3 teaspoons sour cream*
*Note: These ingredients depend on how creamy or thick you prefer your chicken salad. The recipe given is for a creamy chicken salad.
Boil chicken breasts until done, let cool, then shred. Sprinkle salt, pepper, and garlic salt on chicken breasts. Mix mustard, (only Duke's) mayonnaise and sour cream into the chicken breasts. Many would not agree with me, but the best way to mix these ingredients together is with your hands, just make sure your hands are well washed. :) Then, enjoy! Some good ways to enjoy chicken salad is on a croissant roll, Ritz crackers, and filo shells.
Here is a list of some extras that are also good to mix into the chicken salad:
- Grapes (my personal favorite)
- Walnuts
- Pickles
- Egg
- Relish
- Pecans
- Celery
