Fall Family Traditions

Fall is without a doubt my favorite season, and I believe the same can be said for all the members of my little family of three. 

Since my husband and I got married and since we've had our son, we have formed fall traditions that we look forward to each year. Some are probably the same ones your family carries out, I'm sure some of our other traditions are unique to us - and to me, that makes the traditions all the more special.

So, what are some of the things I'm looking forward to with my family this fall:

Candle Shopping

This is one of those "unique" traditions that the three of us have, but it is one I look forward to every season, but especially the fall. The three of us browse several stores until we find the "seasonal scent" that we deem perfect for our home. This fall we've picked Pumpkin Spice, Butter Cream (a housewarming gift that smells amazing!) and Apple Cinnamon scented candles. Even our four-year-old is in on the tradition. He enjoys smelling different candles and telling us which one he wants to buy. When we picked out our candles last week, he wanted a Christmas scented candle - good taste, but wrong season my dear. We aren't quite sure when this tradition started, but we love it. It is something just the three of us do and it gives our house a distinct scent we look forward to when we walk through the door.

The Farmers Market

The Farmers Market on Rutherford Rd.  is another tradition my family enjoys in the fall. The location is perfect-right down the road from Taylors and not even a five-minute drive from our house. This also represents for us a unique learning opportunity for our child, as we teach him about farming, fruits, vegetables and other things he may take for granted when he sees them in the kitchen. The quality of the produce you can find at these farmer's markets is what separates them from mere grocery stores. And you can't beat the price. One fun thing to do is actually give your child a five-dollar bill and see what he or she selects with it - you may be surprised how far that five dollars can stretch. 

Porch Time

Maybe it is because I was born and raised a southern girl, but give me a good book, a hot chocolate and a porch to sit on and I am one happy lady. Lucky for me, my husband and child are the same way. My husband and I love sitting on our back porch talking or reading a book. Our little boy likes to sit on the porch and look at the stars (he is currently very interested in planets). During the day, from our porch we can see people golfing and we hear the swing as they tee off. At night we hear various animals and feel the temperature drop. With the crisp cool air that has finally hit our town, the perfect time for porch time is now. 

Living Room Tailgating

Instead of going to every football game every season, we enjoy watching most of the games from home. Thanks to my Papa's old big screen t.v. that we now have, we have a better view of the field than we would if we were in the stadium. We enjoy inviting people over, serving finger foods and rooting for our team, all within the confines of our home. There is something nice about having a huge group of our family and friends over to watch a game or just the three of us cuddled up on the couch cheering for our favorite team.
