Gowdy Receives Applause from Constituents for Voting against Boehner’s Plan
Rep. Trey Gowdy voted against the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives on the issue of the debt ceiling, and drew praise from his constituents back home.

Greenville – Rep. Trey Gowdy spoke to his constituents Tuesday at Tommy’s Ham House in Greenville on job creation, solutions to fix entitlement programs and the country's economic crisis.
During his presentation he highlighted that mandatory spending programs such as Social Security, Medicare and other entitlement programs represent 60 percent of the U.S. budget. He stressed that these programs will be available for Americans over 55 years old, but Congress must reform entitlement plans for Americans under the age of 55.
Gowdy stated that taxing the rich or cutting defense spending will not solve the problem of the U.S. budget short fall. His strategy is to create an environment where small businesses can thrive and to bring in the needed tax revenue to create a balanced budget.
