Not A Journey For The Faint of Heart

A young mom's take on health and fitness.

Hi guys! Looks like I'll be joining the awesome list of Taylors Patch bloggers starting now. My name is Becky, and I am a working mom and wife living on the east side of our fabulous city. Some of you might actually know me in "real life," but for most of you, I'm another new face on the growing Patch web site.

To be asked to join a list of talented people and writers like Carolyn Farr Smith, Kim Hix, or Joshua Cook is really flattering, and I'm excited to share just a snippet of my interests with you. I'm a lot of things: A writer, a mom, a wife, the daughter of a flower child and a drill sergeant, a music junkie, an annoyingly loud car singer, etc. But in this case, I knew the minute I got a message from Carolyn that what I wanted to share with you all was the journey I'm currently on where fitness and health is concerned.

Over the last two years since my son was born, a lot of things in my life have obviously changed. I was always athletic before my pregnancy, but becoming a mom opened up a new level of "go getterness" in me, and led me to go in a direction with my workouts that I never saw happening. A regular fixture in my posts will be Grace, my workout partner, green tea buddy, and one of my best friends. Grace finall convinced me to "try out" her crazy workouts about a year ago - a potent combination of heavy weight lifting, Crossfit-style drills, and interval cardio that kicked off an overall change in the way I (and my family) live.

At least once a week, look for a post with a workout and a recipe that you can try. Grace and I like to focus on a "more bang for your buck" approach in both fitness and nutrition - in other words, burning as many calories and getting as many strength gains as we can in a 30 minute workout, or seeing how many veggies we can pack into a meal. As busy moms, we know what it's like to say "I don't have time for me." But you do - even if it's only 10 minutes, you need and deserve that time for yourself.

But of course, this blog won't just be for moms. This is a place for everybody! If you're ready to learn more about fueling your body and using your muscles, vent about a health or fitness challenge you're dealing with, swap recipes or workouts, or just tell me you think my push-up form needs work (haha), it's not a journey for the faint of heart. But it pays big dividends!
