Spider Webs and Football

Autumn brings with it a myriad of beautiful things. Colorful leaves. Glistening spider webs. And football.

Oh the writer's block I have had. Killer writer's block. We all have these moments when nothing comes out. I feel I have exhausted every avenue, and so I go to my best inspiration. My mother.

For as long as I could remember I have gone to my mother when I have gotten stuck. My mom talks me right out of the block with two words: Spider webs.

As fall approaches, the weather begins to change. Well, everywhere but here. School begins, spider webs begin to adorn porches and doorways with their handiwork and the great season of football is to begin.

Anyone who knows me well knows that I am a huge college football fan. And if any one knows me really really well, they know I am a Clemson Tiger. Without a doubt my blood runs orange - my attire mainly consists of orange and purple, and I live for the most exciting 25 seconds in college football, when the gods of the football field rub Howard's Rock and storm down Death Valley's hill.

Ok, I know, you are still asking, how in the world did I get from spider webs to the awesomeness of college football? I have no clue. My brain works in mysterious ways. Now, back to it.

So the football season is finally here. Riverside and Eastside High have already played the first games, against each other. Both teams had high hopes but my good ol' Alma Mater conquered the Eagles. It was quite a defeat, 45 - 18. Riverside dominated. Wade Hampton held its first game against Blue Ridge High School. After much taunting in our youth group, our only Blue Ridge student was able to walk in Sunday morning with her head held high, boasting of Blue Ridge's 15-13 victory.

It's only a few days away. I know, technically college football starts today, but for me, I have yet to see a game because my Tigers have yet to play. So, for me the football season has not started.

I personally cannot wait.

Football is the beginning of everything great: Good food, good friends and great excitement.

So, start getting rid of those spider webs, because frankly they are awfully disgusting to walk through, and I have a distinct fear of spiders. Here come the hamburgers, chips and dip, and those little tiny BBQ weenies. Yum.

Pull out your team colors if you haven’t already, and get ready for some football.
