Palmetto Curling Club

The Palmetto Curling Club started at the Pavilion last year and has attracted people from all over the Upstate to try their hand at this ancient Scottish team sport, which became a Winter Olympic discipline in 1998.

In curling, each member of a four-person team "shoots" 42 pound granite stones across the ice toward a target. The team's objective is to position as many of its stones closer to the target than its opponent's nearest stone during each end (an end is like an inning in baseball) to earn points. The winner is the team that has the most points at the completion of the game, which is normally 8-10 ends. Curling is a sport of honor, tradition, and integrity that requires both physical dexterity and complex, strategic decision-making.

Currently, the 50 active members of the Palmetto Curling Club curl on Tuesday nights at 7:30 pm in league play. Since last year, they have had a series of "open houses" and introduced the sport to nearly 300 people ranging in ages from 12 to 82. Curling is a lifetime sport and the PCC encourages all those interested in learning more or giving it a try to contact the Club at palmettocurling@gmail.com.
