Obituary: Dolores H. Leonard of Greer

Funeral set for Sunday at Lee Road United Methodist Church in Taylors.

Dolores Hutchens Leonard, 81, widow of Carroll Long Leonard, Sr., died March 3, 2013 in Greer.

She was born December 29, 1931 in East Spencer, N.C. and she was the youngest daughter of the late William Hilary and Bertha Taylor Hutchens.

Dolores was a 1950 graduate of Lexington High School in N.C., where she met her sweetheart, Carroll. They were married for 51 happy years before Carroll died in 2002. She was an active member of Lee Road United Methodist Church since 1973. Dolores enjoyed her membership in the D.W. Smith Sunday School class, The Young at Hearts Senior Group, the United Methodist Women, the Ladies Prayer Group and the Chancel Choir.

Dolores is survived by her son, Carroll L. Leonard, Jr., (Len) of Walterboro, S.C.; her daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Norman Morrison of Taylors, S.C. and her daughter, Robin Duncan of Gastonia, N.C.; her grandchildren, Whitney Duncan and her fiancé Chris Curl and their infant daughter, Emercyn Gray of Gastonia, N.C., Zane Duncan of Boone, N.C. and Hillary Morrison Salter and her husband Clif Salter of Greer, S.C. and their son to be Levi Allen; a sister, Betty Moore of Kernersville, N.C.; a brother Tom Hutchens and his wife Jean of Salisbury, N.C. along with many nieces and nephews who knew her as "Aunt Dokey". She is also survived by her best friend of 47 years Ruth Gabel of Surfside Beach, S.C.; her dear friend Bobbie Duncan of Walhalla, S.C. and her former son-in-law, Jimmy Duncan of West End, N.C. She was a caring wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother who had a sweet smile and pretty blue eyes.

Visitation will be at Lee Road United Methodist Church, Taylors, S.C. on Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 1:30-2:45 p.m. prior to the funeral. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary conducted by Rev. Douglas Gilliland. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the caring staff in Unit I at National Health Care of Greer for the special love and kindness they showed our Mother during her seven months stay there.
