(chalkbeat.org) — Delta County School District has launched its own Empower Online program to win back students and state funding that had been leaving for multi-district online schools. About 40 mostly high school students now take Colorado Digital Learning Solutions courses while staying tied to local staff, activities, and events. The story also explains how other Colorado districts are using similar online options to counter enrollment declines.
   

• Why a group of Colorado midwives are suing state regulators (aspenpublicradio.org) — Women in the Roaring Fork Valley now must travel to Delta or Grand Junction for prenatal visits and home-birth midwife support because there’s no local direct-entry midwife. A group of Colorado midwives, including one who served the Western Slope for decades, is suing state regulators, alleging biased investigations and suspensions that they say worsen maternity care access in rural communities.
