• 3 people displaced after fire at home in Manchester (nbcconnecticut.com) — East Hartford firefighters helped Manchester crews knock down a basement fire Friday morning on Salem Road that left three residents displaced and their home uninhabitable. One person was checked for smoke inhalation but declined hospital transport, and the Red Cross is assisting those forced out while investigators work to determine the cause.
• UConn football names Kalieb Osborne starting quarterback (theridgefieldpress.com) — UConn’s new head coach has picked Toledo transfer Kalieb Osborne as starting quarterback just before the Huskies open their season at Rentschler Field in East Hartford against Lafayette. The 6-foot-4 dual-threat junior beat out two other contenders and is expected to boost the offense for home crowds this fall.
