Nearly $20M in Improvements Proposed for Brentwood Schools Campus

A $9.3 million dollar STEM building and broad improvements to athletic facilities are among the highlights of the BHS update.

BRENTWOOD, TN — The shared Murray Lane campus of Brentwood High School and Brentwood Middle could be in line for a package of improvements totaling $19.6 million under a proposal detailed Tuesday night.

The updates, which include renovations to athletic and academic facilties, as well as to parking and traffic, could accommodate as many 600 students between the high school and middle school, easing ever-tighter space in a school district that expects to add 10,000 new students in the next five years.

On the athletic side, the proposals are:

  • Artificial turf on football field. Price: $800,000. This was also part of the proposal for Franklin High.
  • New bleachers at the football stadium. Price: $700,000.
  • New restrooms and concession building at stadium. Price: $348,000.
  • New field house. Price: $400,000.
  • New stadium entry, described as a college-style plaza entrance. Price: $300,000.

Academically, the proposals include:

  • A 52,000 square-foot, three-story STEM building. Price: $9.36 million
  • Administration addition of 8,000 square feet. Price: $1.28 million
  • New cafeteria of 6,000 square feet. Price: $510,000

The STEM building would accommodate Brentwood Middle and High School students and include 26 to 30 classrooms and an eating space.

The proposal also includes a $933,810 access road connecting through to Granny White Pike, which would also require some co-operation from the City of Brentwood for traffic control.
