Here are the top stories in Chattanooga today:

  1. Chattanooga State Community College is holding a virtual version of its YA-Hoo Fest 2021, a young adult author festival. It will feature 19 well-known YA authors. Jeff Zentner, known for writing In the Wild Light, has attended the festival since its first year in 2018 and is planning to return for his fourth year. This event is free to all, but registration is required to attend since it will be held via Zoom. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Lookout Mountain Mayor David Bennett said at a public hearing this week that the latest tax increase for the Lookout Mountain area was mainly due to inflation and that the coronavirus pandemic is also to blame. He has made this statement because there is a misconception that taxes were raised to complete a new fire station and to repair city hall. At the public hearing, there was also talk of the Georgia Department of Transportation starting on Monday to work on fixing the top of the Ochs Highway Extension near Rock City where the road has started to erode.   5. A Hamilton County School board member says that the state school board has been tying their hands behind their backs by not allowing the district to move to virtual schooling as COVID-19 cases rise within the county. (WTVC)
